Urtzi Urkixo

Urtzi graduated with honors from the Basque Country School of Fine Arts in Bilbao and went on to study editorial design and printing techniques. In recent years, he has developed his artistic projects at various institutions in Spain and Germany, such as the Bilbao Arte Foundation, the CIEC International Printmaking School, Alfara Gráfica, and the Druckwerkstatt Bethanien Berlin. Urtzi is currently setting up his print studio, Voltaire Lab, which allows him to draw on both his skills and experience as a graphic designer and as a printmaker to produce designs and fine art prints for several international designers and artists. To artistically realize his central idea—illustrating the connections and relationships between the concepts of “human” and “citizen”—he often uses manipulated photographs to print his designs onto various surfaces, such as paper, plywood, and fabric.
